Is this the Best I-Beam Pull Up Bar?

Many of the pull-up bars sold for installation in the home just aren’t that sturdy. They mount in doorframes, where there is a risk of slippage as well as damage to the paint and wood that support them. On top of all that, they often strain audibly when used for anything other than slow, basic pull-up or chin-up movements.

Pull-up bars mounted onto the solid metal I-beams that run throughout a house avoid all these problems. They are more stable, durable, long-lasting, and even more practical than doorframe or even power tower-style pull up bars. They won’t collapse when swung on or used for acrobatic pull-ups or muscle-ups, and because of their solidity, I-Beam pull-up bars are more of a joy to use.

The Promountings I-Beam Pull Up Bar is the best selling I-Beam and best-reviewed pull-up bar on Amazon, with 42 ratings and a 4 and a half star average. Let’s see if it really is the best I-Beam Pull Up Bar out there.

Specs:

  • 3 Different Grip Positions

  • Easy installation without drilling

  • Fits I-beams and H-beams that fall between 3.5” and 10”

  • 500 lb. weight limit

  • 30-day money-back guarantee

  • Lifetime warranty

  • 19 lb. shipping weight

The Good:

Straight out of the box, the Promountings I-beam Pull Up Bar feels extremely solid, and for such a large object, it shipped really fast. I had no trouble setting it up with the included tools, and once hung on a basement I-beam, I immediately tested it out. The install time was only a few minutes. (Note: The I-beam must be exposed to mount this product because the bar clamps to the lips that run along the bottom of the beam).

Preforming wide, close and hammer pull-ups on this bar was a blast. It has none of the ‘rickety’ quality of so many wall and doorframe mounted bars. I came away after just one workout totally happy with the purchase, even with the higher price tag compared to other kinds of pull up bars. Weeks later and my opinion hasn’t changed.

The Bad:

The grips included with this bar were not very effective and would slip off after a few sessions of use. I quickly replaced them with tape and then had no other issues. Promounting’s customer service was responsive and helpful.

Recommended?

The Promountings I-beam pull up bar is a fantastic addition to my home calisthenics gym, and will probably end up being the longest lasting piece of equipment I own. I can’t recommend it highly enough to anyone with an exposed beam somewhere in the house, looking to invest in a pull-up bar that won’t damage a door frame or strain under the pressure of daily use.

Though the price if quite a bit higher than that of doorframe pull up bars, that extra money is well spent on a bar this durable and well made.
